Squale divers are commonly
co-branded, in this case Blandford
SA. Blandford Sub Aqua is a U.K.
based  distributor of diving
equipment.

Squale divers of this vintage have
beautiful dials. The dial face is
slightly domed and cut in a
"sunburst" pattern, like the silver
dials on Doxa Searamblers and
Jenny Caribbeans, then a high gloss
varnish is applied, darker at the
edges, brighter in the center. The
effect is very different from that of an
enameled dial, and changes with
different lighting. Impossible to
capture in pictures with indoor
lighting, it practically glows out in the
sunshine.

Also typical to Squales of this
vintage is the high-domed acrylic
crystal, which gives the watch
character not found in modern dive
watches with flat glass crystals.
Look closely and you'll see the Von
Buren manufacturer's signature in
the middle of the dome.

Another detail rarely seen on
modern watches is the acrylic bezel
insert which has lumed numbers and
markers. It will still energize and
glow for a while. These old acrylics
didn't age well and many suffered
from cracking. As a result clean and
intact examples are rare.

Also common to vintage Squales is
the application of the serial number
on the case. On this watch it can be
seen on the side of the case at nine
o'clock.
