The submarine C.S.S. Hunley is seen
above the surface of the Atlantic for
the first time since it sunk on the night
of Feb. 17, 1864, after successful
action against the U.S.S. Housatonic.
The Hunley sank 4 miles off the coast
of Charelston, S.C. with all hands on
board. The remains of the Hunley
were discovered on May 3, 1995 by
Clive Cussler’s NUMA Organization.
Archeological and conservation work
on the Hunley continues today in
Charleston, S.C. where it rests.
